        EMVŸ is not a label put on a person. It is a reading of one.
        Youth is not an age — it is the part of a person that has not yet agreed
        to stop looking.
      

      

        Every piece leaves here stamped, numbered and documented, because a garment
        that passes between two people is a record of both. We photograph on the felt of
        a pool table in Umhlanga. We stamp 11 · R.S.A · 05 on
        everything that goes out the door. We call the people who wear it Earthians,
        because that is the only accurate word for all of us.
      

      

        Nothing here is mass. Runs are short, and when a specimen is gone it is
